Patch 1.31: the final content update
The January 2026 update is the most important document in UFC 5's history, because it is the one that ends it. EA published it on 22 January 2026 under the title "UFC 5 January Update", and it does three things: it thanks the community, it summarises two years of live service, and it states plainly that Patch 1.31 is the last update to add new playable content.

The numbers EA chose to publish
The retrospective lists seven figures for the live-service run:
| Figure | Value |
|---|---|
| Content updates | 31 |
| Fight Week events | 30 |
| Punch Cards | 35 |
| Alter Egos | Over 145 |
| New rostered fighters | Over 80 |
| Legends | 6 |
| New venues | 1 |
These are the only official totals for the game's content run, and they are the numbers this site uses everywhere else. They also explain the shape of the roster hub: 74 cards today against 80+ fighters added over the run means the hub is a curated snapshot, not an inventory.
What Patch 1.31 actually is
The wording matters, so here it is in substance: Patch 1.31 is the final update to introduce new playable content, including fighters, Alter Egos, created-fighter items and special event fight kits.
Note what is not in that list: modes, systems, balance and bug fixes. The announcement closes the content pipeline, not the game.
What continues after 1.31
The same post lists the continuing support, and it is more than a courtesy paragraph:
- Fight Week Challenges, Pick'ems and Punch Cards with every UFC numbered event
- Fighter data and record updates after events
- Online services on both platforms
- Technical maintenance
Which means the answer to "is UFC 5 dead?" is no. The answer to "will there be new fighters?" is also no. Both are true at once, and most coverage of the announcement got that wrong in one direction or the other.
The farewell gifts
To mark the end, EA gave every player a login reward between 22 January and 10 February 2026.
Six Community Vote Alter Egos:
| Fighter | Event |
|---|---|
| Charles Oliveira | UFC 262 (2021) |
| Quinton "Rampage" Jackson | UFC 75 (2007) |
| Jorge Masvidal | UFC 244 (2019) |
| Petr Yan | UFC 267 (2021) |
| Stephen Thompson | UFC 205 (2016) |
| Daniel Cormier | UFC 226 (2018) |
Six vanity items: PRIDE Blue Crew Neck, Red Track Pants, Anime-Style Hair (Blue), Red and Tan Rope Gloves, Grey and Black PRIDE Gloves, and a Guns Emote.
If you install the game after that window, those six Alter Egos are not available through that promotion. They were a login gift with a two-and-a-half-week window, and the window closed.
Why the post reads the way it does
The announcement spends most of its length on the community rather than on the product. That is unusual for a patch note and normal for a sunset message: EA is closing a live-service chapter and opening the next one, and the post points forward to 2026 without naming what comes next — UFC 6, which EA released on 19 June 2026.
For a player in 2026, the useful reading is structural rather than sentimental. UFC 5 is a finished product with a fixed roster, a fixed Alter Ego list and a fixed patch history, plus a live Fight Week rotation tied to real events. That is a stable thing to buy, and it is a different proposition from a live game.
What to do with this information
- Do not wait for a roster update. There will not be one. If a fighter is not in the game now, they are not coming.
- Do check Fight Week. The rotation still runs, and the challenges are the only changing content.
- Treat the six farewell Alter Egos as gone. No promotion has reissued them.
- Read patch notes with dates. A guide that recommends a pre-1.27 submission route is describing a build that no longer exists.
The one paragraph worth quoting
EA's own summary of the run: "31 content updates, 30 Fight Week events, 35 Punch Cards, over 145 Alter Egos, over 80 new rostered fighters, 6 Legends, 1 brand-new venue."
That is the game's scope in one line. Everything else on this site is detail on top of it. Every number above is quoted from EA rather than counted by this site, and the count on the roster hub is smaller because the hub only shows a curated five cards per division.
What to check on your own account
If you played during the live-service years, three things are worth verifying after the closure. First, check your Alter Ego collection: any reward you earned from a Fight Week challenge should still be there, because the closure stopped new content rather than removing existing unlocks. Second, check your Punch Card track: cards still rotate with events, so an unfinished card from a past event is gone rather than paused. Third, check your career saves: a career that was mid-season in January 2026 still loads, and the G.O.A.T. checklist is still completable because it depends on career progress rather than live content.
